Accra, Ghana – September 22, 2024: The Ghana Indian Malayalee Association (GIMA) celebrated Onam 2024 with grand fervor at the Aviation Social Centre, drawing around 700 Malayalees from across Ghana on Sunday. The vibrant event, filled with cultural performances, traditional cuisine, and a strong sense of community, brought Kerala’s harvest festival to life in Accra.

The celebration commenced with a warm welcome speech by GIMA President Santosh Nair, followed by the official inauguration by His Excellency Manish Gupta, High Commissioner of India to Ghana. Biju Joseph, GIMA Chairman and member of the Loka Kerala Sabha, delivered the Onam speech, highlighting the significance of the festival and its timeless values of unity, joy, and sharing.

The stage came alive with a series of cultural performances, featuring lively dance routines, Thiruvathira, skits by kids and soulful musical acts. Both youngsters and adults participated enthusiastically, showcasing their talents in traditional Kerala attire, adding to the festive atmosphere. and all enjoyed the treditional sadhya prepared by the communty lead by Suman lal

With over 700 Malayalees attending, GIMA’s Onam 2024 was a true reflection of cultural pride and strong community bonding.

The event was expertly coordinated by GIMA Secretary Santhosh K O, Vice President Aneesh Nandanam, Joint Secretary Lijo John, and Treasurer Pradeep V Joseph, with the support of Smitha Hari, Leksmi Sunder, and Bindhu Philip, ensuring its smooth execution and success.

In his closing remarks, President Santosh Nair expressed his gratitude to the community for their participation and support, stressing the importance of preserving cultural traditions. A significant portion of the event’s proceeds, 20%, was donated towards relief efforts in Wayanad, Kerala, reflecting the community’s solidarity with the flood-affected region.

The Onam 2024 celebration concluded on a high note, with promises of more community-driven events that would continue to celebrate and reinforce the rich cultural heritage of the Malayalee community in Ghana. Ghana Indian Malayalee Association (GIMA)

Rangapooja


Our event began with a colorful Rangapooja led by Navami, setting a festive tone right from the start.

We proudly introduced our hardworking executive committee members who have been the backbone of our community's efforts.

Welcome Speech


Our Secretary gave a warm and welcoming speech, making everyone feel right at home.

Inauguration


The High Commission Incharge graced us with their presence and officially inaugurated the celebration.

Cultural Performances


We enjoyed breathtaking performances such as Thiruvathira, Oppana, and Margam Kali, showcasing our rich cultural heritage.

Sadhya


A traditional Onam feast was served at 1 PM, delighting everyone's taste buds with its variety and flavor.

Sports Activities


Fun games like the Lemon Spoon Race, Yes/No Game, and Musical Chairs brought out the competitive spirit in all of us.

Vadam Vali (Tug of War)


The Tug of War was an exhilarating event that showcased our community's strength and teamwork.

Raffle


The raffle draw added an element of excitement, with wonderful prizes up for grabs.

Closing

The celebration concluded at 6:30 PM, leaving everyone with cherished memories and a renewed sense of community. The success of the event was due to the hard work of the organizing committee and the enthusiastic participation of everyone present.
